The Art of Fares Cachoux

At the intersection of political poster, graphic art and painting, the work of Fares Cachoux is a committed work of art. From politics to the environment through to an analysis of the world’s societies and their various idosyncracies, his perspective is always relevant, judicious and incisive.

Cachoux first gained prominence for his eloquent posters documenting the 2011 Syrian revolution, in which he highlighted the events shaking his native country and denounced the abuses committed by the Syrian regime against its own people. Over the next few years, he then turned his attention to the countries of the Gulf, where he lived for 10 years. Caught between age-old traditions and an unbridled thirst for modernity, life in the Gulf reveals itself to be paradoxical but is, in many respects, simply a reflection of our own, personal complexities. More recently, Cachoux has focused on the environment and the new challenges we face, beginning with nurturing a respect for our surroundings and our nourishing Earth.

Cachoux’s minimalist and daring style, expressed in bright colours and strong, simple silhouettes, makes it possible to transmit clear messages which express humanity’s quest for freedom and dignity.

He held his first solo exhibition in Paris in 2015, after being invited by Banksy to participate in his Dismaland exhibition in the United Kingdom. Today, his works are regularly featured in publications such as Le Monde, Le Temps, Courrier International and the Huffington Post. His work also appears in French school textbooks and is frequently used to teach students how to read and decipher political posters.
